A Legacy of Osteopathy in Saskatchewan
It gave me great joy to be the first Osteopath to reintroduce this profession back to the people of Saskatchewan, following the pioneering work of Dr. Doris Tanner, who was the first osteopath in Saskatchewan, practicing in Regina Saskatchewan. Dr Tanner continued practicing until retiring at age 98 and died age 102, Dr Tanner had been a part of Dr Sutherland’s initial study group during his development of cranial osteopathy. Dr. Anna Northup-Little, who graduated from the American School of Osteopathy in Kirksville, Missouri in 1915, began her practice in Moose Jaw Saskatchewan. In 1953 she moved her practice to Regina, joining Dr. Doris Tanner. Both women left a lasting legacy. I find myself both humbled and inspired by these trailblazers.
In addition to my 5 year Osteopathic training, and research, I have also had the privilege of training with brilliant and highly regarded, and world renowned Osteopaths such as Viola Frymann, Fred Mitchell, Jane Carreiro, James Jealous, Colin Dove, and Philippe Druelle. They have not only shaped my career but also fueled my dedication to carrying forward the rich legacy of Osteopathy in Saskatchewan. I am privileged to have trained with these luminaries throughout my career, and their influence motivates me to continue applying the principles and practices of Osteopathy.
As we celebrate 25 years of commitment, care, and positive impact on the lives of individuals and families in Saskatchewan, my deepest gratitude goes to everyone who has been part of our journey.
Here’s to the future and continuously raising the bar for patient care and Osteopathy!
